In January 2016, a woman named Wayan Mirna Salihin was rushed to the hospital after losing consciousness after drinking Vietnamese iced coffee at a mall cafe. Jessica Kumala Wongso, Mirna’s best friend, allegedly poisoned her with cyanide, which was later determined to be the cause of death.
Mirna and Jessica first met in 2008, when they were both students at the Billy Blue College of Design in Australia. After graduating, Mirna returned to Indonesia with her boyfriend, Arief Soemarko. Meanwhile, Jessica remained in Australia because she had been granted permanent resident status there.
To summarize the story, at the end of 2015, Mirna married Arief. Mirna did not invite Jessica to come to her wedding because of their broken friendship. This happened after Mirna advised Jessica to leave her Australian boyfriend, Patrick O’Connor.
Mirna considered Jessica unsuitable for a relationship with a man like Patrick. In other words, Patrick is not a good person. However, Mirna’s opinion led to a misunderstanding between the two.
A few weeks after Mirna’s wedding, Jessica, who had already left for Indonesia, invited her to meet up with another friend named Hani Juwita Boon at the Olivier Cafe.
The original plan was to meet at the cafe at 5pm. However, Jessica arrived at the location at exactly 15.30, one and a half hours earlier than promised.
Arriving at the cafe, Jessica proceeded to book a table. She then went to buy gifts for her friends. After shopping, Jessica returned to the cafe with her right hand holding three paper bags and her left hand holding a handbag. Shortly afterward, Jessica ordered drinking water, including for Mirna and Hani.
