In response to her death, the local police department, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation all started looking into what happened.

On January 9, 2017, Ashley Zhao vanished from her parents’ restaurant, Ang’s Asian Cuisine. She was reported missing at approximately 9:00 PM on the same day.

The pair first told authorities that they last saw Ashley sleeping in a makeshift bed at the restaurant’s rear door, which led investigators to suspect she fled away. However, Ashley’s body was soon discovered inside the restaurant.
