The Cruel Murder of Cherish Perrwinkle

Donald James Smith kidnapped, raped, and murdered Cherish Perrywinkle at a Jacksonville Walmart ten years ago today. Smith committed horrific child sexual abuse throughout his life.

On the night of June 16, 2012, a woman named Rayne Perrywinkle took her three children, Cherish (8 years old), Destiny (5 years old), and Nevaeh (3 years old), out to buy items at the General Store supermarket in Jacksonville, Florida.

While at the store, Rayne saw some clothes that she thought would suit Cherish. However, she didn’t buy the dress due to the lack of money she was carrying. Unbeknownst to Rayne, an elderly man named Don — or possibly his real name was Donald Smith — was observing her every move in the store.

Don had been a registered sex offender since 1993. He had also just been released from prison three weeks earlier for child abuse.

Don reprimanded Rayne after she made the purchase and immediately left the store. The two knew each other before Don offered to buy clothes for Rayne’s children using his Walmart vouchers…
