Monica and her ex-husband, Thomas Berry, were killed in a highway robbery in Venezuela on January 6, 2014, while on vacation with their five-year-old daughter. Their daughter survived the attack.

Monica Spear, whose birth name was Monica Spear Mootz, was born in Maracaibo, Zulia, Venezuela, on October 1, 1984. The daughter of Rafael Spear Tudares and Ingeborg Moodz Gotera, she had one sister and three siblings.

After her parents’ retirement in 2000, Monica and her family relocated to Orlando, Florida, in the United States. Monica, who was renowned for her beauty, pursued her studies at the University of Central Florida with a concentration in theater. In addition, Monica was known for being a decent, positive, and affable woman who was liked by those in her vicinity. Notable was Monica’s proficiency in English, French, and Spanish.

In 2004, Monica competed in the Venezuelan beauty contest and was declared the winner. As a consequence of this victory, Monica was automatically selected to represent Venezuela at the following year’s world beauty pageant, which was held in Thailand.
