Hutchins apologized for his action and spent more than two years at the Iowa Boys Training School in Eldora, Iowa.

Arthur Hutchins grew up and sold concessions at the carnival. He later returned to California as a horse trainer and jockey. He died of a blood clot in 1954, leaving behind his wife and young daughter Carol.
